PROJECT: SIDE BY SIDE EACH FACING THE SUN
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Side By Each Facing the Sun is a visual autobiography of my relationship to the root chakra, the first of the seven energy centers that comprise our energic anatomy. The series explores notions of home, family of origin, the earth, history, safety, and humanity; and celebrates the relationship between spirituality and creativity. The work is rich in symbols and metaphors that reflect my personal history and experience. The title itself is borrowed from a beloved childhood anecdote my father told about my French Canadian relatives and the enchanting way they spoke English phrases in their non-native tongue. They ordered eggs sunny side up with a poetic twist --side by each facing the sun. For me, the title conjures feet firmly planted in the ground, eyes turned to the heavens, much like the root chakra itself.
